It's pretty safe to assume, though, that if this is the progress made within less than one week, we'll almost certainly be getting a polished version to play ourselves soon enough.We have been greenlit! A great day for Half-Life 2, and therefore, the world! Unfortunately, though, there's no playable mod available to the public at this point so all we have for now is this showcase demo to get us excited. So we're certainly looking forward to a more VR-friendly version. Half-Life 2 was already modded for VR back in 2017, and although it was delightful to be able to step quite literally into City 17, it was in many ways an unideal gaming experience - especially thanks to its extreme cybersickness-inducing pace. He explains that he was unfortunately limited by the fact that Valve hasn't shared the full Source 2 software development kit with the public yet (and they might not do so for a while still). Vect0r shares his process, saying he converted the original Half-Life 2 map file - as well as some of its assets - to the Source 2 format before adding it to Half-Life: Alyx.

The segment of gameplay in Vect0r's video shows a sequence from Half-Life 2 near the beginning of the game, around the plaza outside the train station in City 17 where Gordon wakes up. Modder and YouTuber Vect0r uploaded a video yesterday showcasing the result of having ported Half-Life 2 into the same engine used in Half-Life: Alyx - the Source 2 engine. Valve told us from the start that they would be making it possible for modders to build their own VR-friendly environments and levels using some of the Source 2 tools and components used in Alyx. Nevertheless, we're still amazed at how people hit the ground running pretty much from the get-go, and have already blown us away.
